OK, so Roanoke is not New York City- but we have a killer downtown that is the envy of every small city in the Mid-Atlantic.  Our Roanoke, Virginia attractions, such as weekend street festivals, al fresco dining, art galleries and music venues are abounding in our little town.  Roanoke is one of the few cities in the country to have a mountain within its city limits and just for fun we topped it with the world's largest illuminated star which tagged us as "The Star City of the South".  Named a "Great American Public Place" by the Lyndhurst Foundation, the Roanoke City Market – also commonly called the Farmers' Market, is a must see especially on Saturdays.  Ask around and you might even find out why they used to call Roanoke "Big Lick".
